Mr Cheong Mun Onn joined the Land Transport Authority (LTA) since 2001. He is presently the manager of Intelligent Transport Systems Development Division. An engineer by training, he has been actively involved in the planning, designing and implementing of many commuter-centric Intelligent Transport System (ITS) projects in Singapore. To date, he has overseen the implementation of ITS such as Bus Arrival Information Display System, Unified Maintenance Hub System, Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (EMAS) and EMAS on major arterial road corridors. Presentation Title
Contriving Energy Saving Variable Message Signs (VMS) For Sustainable Development
Abstract
Singapore as a small low-lying city-state is naturally vulnerable to the consequences of climate change. It is particularly concerned with the need to efficiently use resources, especially energy and water. In an attempt to reduce energy consumption, the LTA has since embarked on the enhancement of Variable Message Signs (VMS) to replace the existing high energy-consuming VMS with energy efficient ones along Singapore road network. His presentation will also cover the design overview and positive results observed from this new energy saving initiative.
