Presentation Title
Facultative Bacteria Characteristics and their Use in Odor Mitigation
Abstract
Odor arising from municipal waste is viewed as a complex process that involves many bacterial species. Reduction in odor is often tracked by the reduction in volatile fatty acid concentration. This paper presents our investigation into the use of facultative bacteria. It involves (1) the cultivation of the facultative bacteria, (2) application of the facultative bacteria to municipal waste generated from a controlled sampling in a small community, (3) controlled experimentation using anaerobic digestion over a 21 day cycle, and (4) conduct of chemical tests at 7, 14 and 21 day interval of the samples for odor and nutrient quality.
