As Vice-President for knowledge management and sustainable development, Dr. Bindu N. Lohani is responsible for the Asian Development Bank’s economic research and regional cooperation department (Office of the Chief Economist), office of regional and sustainable development department, and office of information systems and technology.
Dr. Lohani’s professional expertise and experience are in environment, water, climate change, urban infrastructure, and sustainable development. Prior to assuming his current post, Dr. Lohani was Vice-President (Finance and Administration) of ADB. He has held several positions, including Director General of the ADB’s Regional and Sustainable Development Department, and Special Advisor to the President on Clean Energy, Climate Change and Environment. In his 25 years in ADB, he had worked in various capacities mostly infrastructure and sustainable development.
Before joining ADB, he worked for the Government of Nepal (relating to the infrastructure departments) and was Division Chairman of the Environmental Engineering Program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok.
Dr. Lohani holds a Doctorate degree in Engineering. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of United States, and is a diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
