Presentation Title
Building Up Slope Safety and Slope Protecting Structure Resilience against the Changing Climate for the Built Environment in Singapore
Abstract
The changing climate had resulted in Singapore experiencing one of the highest average prolonged rainfall over the last 80 years of 345mm for over 20 hours in December 2006. The exceptionally high rainfall triggered some slope failures and earth retaining wall collapses in different parts of Singapore. This paper will introduce the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Singapore, describe BCA’s role and efforts in addressing climate change impacts and preparedness to safeguard slope safety and slope protection structure resilience through its 3-stage slope management framework for all government agencies, demonstrate the efficiency and high productivity of BCA’s incident management procedures and public communication programme in the event of landslides.
